Taking Modern Christianity to Task, The Consequences of Corruption

This surprisingly forthright sermon and message takes on the corruptions of modern Christianity, or Churchianity, and takes to task both popular televangelists (including T.D. Jakes, still praised much in West Virginia) and typical pastors and churches, which has contributed much to resentment and fueled the vehement opposition and outright hatred by those who oppose Christianity and write against its Bible, standards and beliefs in the press, society, and government.   It is also evidence that there are vehement critics within Christianity which desire a major reformation since these corruptions have damaged the credibility and once stronger influence of genuine Christian teachings in society.

The speaker in this Sermonaudio podcast entitled "Modern Church Nonsense" does not hold back and shows just how relevant an Old Testament prophet's book, Amos--which secularists and liberal churches typically mock at as ancient and not applicable to modern society-- is for today in the 21st Century.  After it was preached in 2007, it was followed interestingly by the banking, real estate and financial and economic crisis, that has dominated the last few years now, making the message and its warnings even more relevant.

Moralityphobia--Get Over It

This anti-social and political disease is a virtual pandemic that infects all discourse within the arenas of government and public debate. Governors, state legislators, teachers, and media (including talk show radio hosts that claim to be "conservative") either promote or are complying in a slavish manner to new Humanist commandments that frame the New Public Mores of "democratic society" (by definition a humanist society without regard to God), which persecutes, scolds and attempts to censor those who do not bow to their rules of Progressive Political Correctness. It is as if there were these new higher laws, graven on modern virtual tablets, written by the finger of Democratic Man:

I. "Thou shalt have no other gods but Tolerance".
II. "Thou shalt not obey old laws, but thou shalt obey the written new rules of Political Correctness (which at present hold legislator's captive by fear and intimidation)
III. "Thou shalt not judge by old standards (only because they are old), such as Virtue, especially from historically respected books, like the Bible."
IV. "Thou shalt not take the name of Tolerance in vain (for Tolerance is intolerant of that, and demands to be worshiped, by some more than others), and make no mention of sins in the old fashion, whether public or private, or such as blasphemes Tolerance".
V. "Thou shalt make no mention of the Bible or its moral teachings, or Jesus (except for Progressive legislation for Tolerance)".

When discussion about homosexuality occurs (since the revolutionary firebrands require it) those who oppose the abhorrent, unnatural, and perverse behavior (and those who practice, promote or legalize it), and are on the side of moral society and what used to be called "public virtue," are branded, slandered, and villified as if they have done evil. A new public "shaming" is put upon them instead, and government bows in fear and even repeals its own laws. (Note the other party's blind hypocrisy about "not judging others"). Thus public debate about Morality is either censured or censored....at least the Old Morality is, but only to be replaced by the New.

Gov. Joe Manchin's Record as He Bids for Byrd's Senate Seat

When Manchin campaigned for governor 6 years ago he promised to improve the state climate for business in West Virginia. CNBC's state scoreboard says it all.

Since President Obama is focused on the economy, what does Manchin bring to the table? Only his "Open for Business" results .

Manchin cut taxes, good. But it was a food tax, which most states don't have. So he gets a C.

He managed the budget well, good, but only by bringing in casino table games to increase state revenues on top of lottery schemes. This increases revenues by defrauding others, their duped consent notwithstanding (what gambling is, and why its a crime until legalized, for the "house always wins"). And this trick was done by circumventing and violating the Constitution of West Virginia, as the WVU Law Professor interview proves (and the state supreme court refused to hear in appeal!) Only 4 of 55 counties got to vote.

Politically-Correct Hatred

It has become increasingly popular to speak with absolute contempt of religion, in particular Christianity, and the Bible (the most respected and distributed book of antiquity), especially in the context of public morality. Any historic laws or philosophers may be quoted from freely (no matter how unworthy of credit), but let anyone dare quote from this profound and historic Book and instantly the democratic mobs bristle and hurl abuse in hateful spite at the messenger. The present public controversies about homosexuality in particular have frequently accused Christians of "hating", as if those who accuse are lovers of professing Christians, or virtue and righteousness, in their calls for modern "justice", while casting down and trampling both the laws of nature and moral laws of God revealed in the Bible, abolishing virtually all historic mores of social decency. "Bible thumpers" has become the ridiculed great evil, and the good Book has become Verboten in a growing Social Fascism of Political-Correctness where "judge not" (as Jesus spoke, but also who commanded to "judge ye with righteous judgment") is misinterpreted and misapplied to condemn righteous standards by those who "call evil good, and good evil". Can't you feel the love of the condemning social revolutionaries against all those with any Christian profession or standards, who think that "judge not" does not apply to their camp of the New Sadducees of a politically-correct new Liberal Righteousness, who are not really tolerant in their own judgment, and seek even to persecute under color of their new laws and pending legislation?

But could it be, in part, a problem with modern Christianity that accounts for this too? Into this modern age it would be good to hear a just and forthright old sermon from a popular English preacher of yester-year, who spares neither Christian professors and pastors nor those who despise Christian truth, for which reasons it has become politically-correct and common to hate Christianity and the Bible, as if it had the "savor (or smell) of death" on it, instead of a "savor of life".

Republicans should be ashamed that he is their virtual nominee. (No, this is not an endorsement of Hillary or Obama, either).

McCain's Fortunes and Family Tied to Mob--Jerome Corsi Warns Republicans

Jerome Corsi (a conservative unlike the New York Times, interviewed several times on WCHS 58Live local talk radio) in World Net Daily reveals some important and relevant background of the Arizona Senator who pretends to be a champion of ethics and accountability of government, while his own past has many skeletons, some with flesh still on them.

A general defense could be suggested by many that this was merely the rebellion provoked by the Federal government, therefore justifiable in the eyes of many, from days of Prohibition of alcohol, which irrational laws were later repealed. However, this defense will not wash in regard to the Arizona organized crime syndicate created (which bomb-murdered an Arizona Republic reporter, per this article), or the Arizona Savings and Loan Scandal, which overthrew almost every bank in the Southwest and reorganized them under national chains (e.g. Bank of America, et al), and his identity as one of the "Keating Five" tied to the fraud charges in that crisis. His marriage to his present mob-boss-daughter wife cements these suspicious ties, as this article documents partially as well.

Bottom line is that McCain is neither a war hero (see previous articles below) , nor a champion of ethics in Washington. So why are republicans (despite even Rush Limbaugh's earlier open rebellion and complaint) circling the wagons against all justifiable criticisms (see previous posts) against his Constitutional qualifications and "moderate" track record (in truth no different than George W. Bush's), his ethics and all these skeletons in his closet, as if they must approve and stand behind him no matter what? Where is the just criticism that the republican party establishment "has left republican principles" behind? At what point should the republican electorate break with the nominee, because of corrupt principles? How can the "lesser of two evils", not be evil indeed?

The leftist neoconservatives have hijacked the republican party, and McCain is just more evidence of same, who is NO DIFFERENT than George W. Bush (do recall that GHWB was considered "liberal" to Reagan followers), Giuliani (whose closest friend Bernard Kerik also had mob ties), or the fraudulent paper-conservatives Wilford Milton Romney and Mike Huckabee. How long does the label "republican" blind everyone to the truth despite the evidence? In actuality, Ron Paul was the only real republican (per Cal Thomas) in both principle and documented record, which the establishment resists to the electorate's harm.

The writer of this article, Dr. Jerome Corsi, bears record of this infiltation and hijacking of the Republican party, is involved in the Constitution Party, and has also written against the North American Union ("Bush Sneaking in North American Super-state") and dangerous usurpations of George W. Huckabee: A False Political Savior That Deceives Professing Christians

Huntingtonnews.net recently traced the insurgency for Huckabee in West Virginia, who took him from only a few nominated delegates just prior to the registration deadline to 130+ by the stroke of midnight (or perhaps after).

Did Religious Groups Propel Huckabee to County Victories?

Huntington, WV (HNN) – Based on unofficial results of Cabell and Wayne County at-large candidates to the GOP presidential convention in Charleston, the former Arkansas governor and Baptist minister Mike Huckabee captured all at-large positions in those two counties. Interestingly, prior to the close of delegate registration on November 30, Huckabee had only one registered delegate in Cabell County until his delegate count soared to 27.

The following post from Backwater Report (a discerning Christian blog) proves how absolutely gullible, naive, blind and deluded many "Christians" are who are zealously backing the Huckster as their "Christian" political savior, and how defensive they are about him. The corrupt modern churches are the cause of the nation's blindness, for professing to "see" they themselves are blind, and sear many consciences against the truth. These are the same that believe that George W. Bush is a Christian (despite his "confession" that Jesus was his "greatest philosopher" and equating Allah with the God of the Bible) and who blindly supported him in his false profession, and his anti-Christian and unconstitutional usurpations of power, blatant lying and deceit, waging of unjust wars, all under the banner of a false righteousness. It is said of Anti-Christ that he will "deceive many", and here is the party of the deluded, as the writer of the article testifies of from his own experience:

Those 500 people present, most of whom no doubt would label themselves ‘Christian’ have no idea who Mike Huckabee is or what policy he has pursued, and further have no desire to know. I used to think that these people were being manipulated by their Pastors but having spoken to a few Huckabee Pastor types I realize that the fog in the pew is because of the mist in the pulpit. In short, their Pastors are just as deluded as the rank and file. Somehow a lemming avalanche for Huckabee got started and once the avalanche begins no amount of reasoning will thwart its kinetic energy.

I know this because I got snowed over by the avalanche. When it was announced that Huckabee was going to be in St. Johns and when I realized it was the homeschooling organization that I am loosely a part of that was pushing it I sent a e-mailing out to those in the homeschooling group simply explaining some of the liberal and Statist tendencies of Mike Huckabee and providing links for people to look closer at this wolf in sheep’s clothing. Given the response I received you would have thought that I had committed blasphemy by touching the Lord’s anointed.

So here is the summary of the first observation. People, including Christians, so desperately want heroes that they will turn off rational thought once they decide, for whatever reason, that some person is going to be that hero. Secondly, the Christian community is no different from the non-Christian community when it comes to shallowness, practicing thought by emotion, and sheer unmitigated gullibility.

The observation about Huckabee is that he is slick the same way that Clinton was slick except that he has added Jesus coating to his slickness. This is the my chief reason for disliking Huckabee. It is my estimation that he is cynically using Jesus to get elected. Let’s face it if it weren’t for Huckabee’s ministerial ties and willingness to invoke Jesus at every turn he would be running neck and neck with Duncan Hunter and be easily dismissed as a center-left moderate Republican (What they call a Social Democrat in Europe). Recently, I am blaming him less and less for this and increasingly I am blaming the ‘Christian community’ for being such willing naifs.

Obama and Ron Paul were projected in several (non-media sponsored) polls to do much better. It is possible for one or two polling companies to be wrong, but not all seven or eight. Rush Limbaugh and another pundit on 58Live with Agnello today basically lied, saying the "media" was at a loss to explain how THEY were wrong. What? The media did NOT conduct those pre-election polls. Rather Zogby, Rasmussen, and several others did, and they were right on the mark in Iowa.

One campaign trick should be admitted, the one Hillary Clinton pulled. There is circumstantial evidence that the men who yelled "Iron My Shirts", also printed clearly on a sign during a rally, was a planted provocateur, in order for Clinton to make the "sexism is alive and well" claim, and thus rally WOMEN to vote for her AT THE LAST MINUTE, thus overcoming the earlier polls potentially--or such would be their claim and explanation. Make no mistake, Giuliani is not a conservative, but a neoconservative sycophant and a fascist, who will not uphold the Constitution of the United States, but usurp and overthrow it entirely using Executive "unitary" powers in a New York minute. Very liberal indeed. Amazingly, as far as his personal life, suddenly the most open critics of Bill Clinton have nothing to say or have become open apologists and pragmatists (including 58Live's Michael Agnello) brushing off Giuliani's "serial adultery" as if it has no bearing on principle, ethics, or trustworthiness, or an indicator of possibly also breaking trust or covenant with the American people. DOES CHARACTER MEAN NOTHING--even to "conservatives"? Besides, who wants a sometimes cross-dressing, pro-homosexual, lisping, Yankee Roman Catholic from New York City to represent America? Ethics and character, even religious beliefs(*), are subject to public review for they all reflect upon the mind and character of the man. This will just scratch the surface of Giuliani's character and positions, there are many more alarming connections and secret alliances, and business deals, that deserve public attention as well. (* Note on religion: Yes, if a man is a Mormon, Jewish or any other sect, his particular form and doctrine of religion, even of Christianity, can be weighed in the balance of private judgment as well, for belief is the mother of actions, and "faiths" are not all the same. Contrary to popular discussion "all faiths" do not make a man "moral", they only paint and white-wash the surface, often as public posturing. Recall that McCain, always Anglican, now claims to be an unbaptized "Baptist", which also raises questions of honesty. There is strong historical precedent from Colonial and early America as to why Roman Catholics in particular were shunned from being in positions of authority, considering that religious freedom of Baptists and Presbyterians in particular, as well as the Deist founders, were persecuted the most by that tyrannical and crusading "faith", which is why early America was almost exclusively Protestant. Catholicism historically has been a key element in Fascism--i.e. Nazi Germany and Italy--as well as other Inquisitional governments. This is NOT to suggest that candidates should be judged by denomination or outward profession alone ("no religious test of office"), which would be foolish and naive, for George W. Bush made plenty of outward profession inconsistent with his moral positions, doctrines, principles and behavior, which some of us observed from the start, but which the "religious right" fell for stupidly hook, line, and sinker, precisely per the crafty Rove's strategy to hoodwink a large voting block. Nothing is more deceitful and morally corrupt than flying "Christian" colors to get elected when it is pure craft and hypocrisy! Nothing is more antithetical to real Christian doctrine that "lying lips" or "feet that make haste to shed innocent blood" (e.g. 655,000 Iraqis), under the guise of "disarming a dictator" in a foreign country that poses no imminent threat. There is a Christian doctrine of "just war", historically believed and taught by Protestant reformers, contrary to Roman Catholicism's Crusades, that limits wars strictly within biblical principles--a "forgotten" and lost doctrine that Ron Paul has mentioned in debates as "America's greatest moral crisis". Unjust war is as murderous as abortion, even more so since it kills the already living, including women and children. Reformed and Calvinistic Christians in particular have increasingly been re-awakened to this lost doctrine and truth and as staunch paleo-conservatives are condemning the lies and propaganda of the neoconservatives' agenda, which planned these wars in advance, implementing them by Machiavellian craft).

As far as his political track record it's amazing how he can mention an oath to the constitution in one breath, but immediately forget it when suggesting policy. Oh yes, and he just "redefined" his position on the 2nd amendment before the National Rifle Association (NRA)! Words and promises are easily spoken during campaigns, but trust must be earned, and history is the best predictor of the future (something Willard Milton Romney is fighting as well).

He may have fooled some at the National Rifle Association, but here is what Gun Owners of America ("the only no-compromise gun lobby in Washington"--Ron Paul) posted about Giuliani's gun record that no real West Virginia conservative would approve of:

Apparently, in Giuliani's America law-abiding citizens in large cities would not enjoy the same constitutional liberties as the rest of the country. Why? Are city dwellers not as trustworthy as country folks? Are metro-Americans not deserving of the right to self-protection?

Disarming citizens because they live in a high crime area is taking away the most effective means of self-defense from the people who need it most. Creating mandatory victims is no way to fight a crime problem.¹

If Giuliani's gun control agenda was really limited 'only' to big cities, that would be disturbing enough. But the record shows that the Mayor continually tried to export his gun control agenda to the rest of the nation.

The new Giuliani of state's rights simply does not square with the Mayor of the '90s.

In 1993, before even being sworn in as mayor, Giuliani met with then-President Clinton at the White House to discuss national gun registration. Giuliani supported the Brady bill, which had recently passed, but argued that it didn't go far enough....

...This flirtation with federalism [i.e. his claim of "reform" to states rights] is merely a facade, however, for in the recent interview with Sean Hannity, Giuliani assured gun owners that he supports only gun control laws that are "reasonable and sensible." He then went on to defend his support of the Brady bill and the semi-auto ban, which are neither.

Fred Thompson has drawn attention to Giuliani's position on this, the conservative Fred Barnes called him "anti-gun" in a forum, and the neoconservative agenda appears to include disarming us (see our article about Gun Owners of America on the candidates), as much as trampling the rest of the Bill of Rights. What would Patrick Henry say to that?

Whatever Rudolph means when he talks about "rule of law" he is not referring to Constitutional rule of law, but one of pure, arbitrary force under the tyrant's plea of "safety and security". Giuliani's track record cannot be hidden, so look at it and remember that Patrick Henry said, "I do not know any other way to predict the future than by the past". We do not need Giuliani to "keep us safe from terrorists", a vague threat that does not hold up to the evidence but has served well a neoconservative tyrannical agenda to overthrow the Constitution, which defines our freedoms. Only a RINO would support Rudolph Giuliani.

Former New York City Mayor and Republican Presidential contender Rudy Giuliani said this week that he was "liberals' worst nightmare." However, the truth is, Rudy Giuliani is everyone's worst nightmare.

That Rudy Giuliani is currently trying to cast himself as a conservative is beyond laughable--it is hilarious. This is a man who is unabashedly pro-abortion. He has been seen walking down Fifth Avenue with thousands of homosexuals demanding "gay rights." He himself is a cross-dresser. He has had numerous marriages and only God knows how many sexual affairs. He has been one of the country's most radical proponents of gun control. He made New York a sanctuary city for illegal aliens and is a strong proponent of amnesty for illegal aliens. As a prosecutor, his abuse of power and disregard for law are legendary. [Read]

In addition, Rudy Giuliani is a senior partner in the law firm that "represents CITGO, the oil company controlled by Venezuela's anti-American and terrorist-supporting ruler Hugo Chavez." Giuliani's law firm also acts "as the exclusive legal counsel for Cintra, the Spanish firm that has been granted the right to operate a toll road in the Trans-Texas Corridor (TTC) project."

Yes, my friends, the umbilical cord connecting the SPP, NAFTA Superhighway and burgeoning North American Union is also connected to Rudy Giuliani.

Yet, Rudy Giuliani wants people to believe that he is "liberals' worst nightmare"? Who is he kidding? Giuliani is a liberal. Actually, Rudy Giuliani is worse than a liberal. He is a liberal that likes to hurt people. I tell you the truth, Rudy Giuliani scares me far more than Hillary Clinton does. Far more. I'll say it right here: if the 2008 Presidential election comes down to Hillary vs. Giuliani, Hillary is the "lesser of two evils." That's how bad Giuliani is.

Any Christian who would vote for Rudy Giuliani needs to check out his or her salvation. And before a conservative could vote for Giuliani, he would have to surrender every conviction and principle he ever held.

As for the Republican Party, if it nominates Rudy Giuliani as its Presidential candidate next year, conservatism will be forever vanquished from the Party. George W. Bush has already just about destroyed conservatism within the GOP. A Giuliani nomination would finish the job.

Rudy Giuliani likes to paint himself as being tough on terrorism. The truth is, Rudy Giuliani is a warmonger. A Giuliani Presidency would mean an expansion of military interventionism and preemptive war like you can't imagine. One can call me what one wants, but I am warning the American people, just as Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Martin Niemoller tried to warn the German people about Hitler: Rudy Giuliani is a monster. Anyone who is paying attention knows this is true.

For example, just two days ago, Giuliani urged expanding NATO to include Australia, India, Israel, Japan, and Singapore, along with "a whole group of others that we could put on that list." As originally designed, NATO's purpose was to counterbalance the former Soviet Union's influence in Europe. However, Giuliani wants to expand NATO into a "global body." He also said he wants to "redouble" the war in Afghanistan. He further said the U.S. should consider the possibility of a "large war with a nation state." So, could Giuliani be planning a preemptive "large war" with other countries? One can only wonder.

Furthermore, if anyone thinks that George W. Bush is obsessed with domestic spying and surveillance, just wait until Giuliani becomes President. You can count on him pressing his anti-Fourth Amendment and anti-Second Amendment agendas to the nth degree through all sorts of executive orders and signing statements.

You can also expect amnesty for illegal aliens to be quickly achieved under a Giuliani administration, along with the completion of the North American Union and NAFTA Superhighway. Of course, this will also be the case if Hillary is elected President, except that if Hillary is leading the charge, many will oppose it; whereas if Giuliani leads the charge, they won't.

This brings up the other thing that makes a Giuliani Presidency so dangerous: the total lack of resistance that rank-and-file conservatives (including Christians) have demonstrated when Republicans control the White House. Absent resistance from his own party and from grassroots conservatives, a Giuliani administration would be left free to perpetrate radical fascist and imperialistic policies completely unfettered.

Everything about Rudy Giuliani smacks of fraud, indecency, greed, and power-lust. Even the wave of 9/11, which Giuliani is riding to the Presidential election, is fraught with duplicity. In fact, New York City firefighters are so fearful their former mayor might succeed in his quest to become President that they came out against his candidacy in a dramatic video. Texas Republican Straw Poll - Ron Paul delegates Suppressed

It is clear that the "establishment" republicans are AFRAID of Ron Paul, who has genuine enthusiastic grass roots support. The republican establishment is afraid to give fair election process, so they change the rules, and corrupt it, and it is no coincidence that the entire republican operation throughout the country have made major shifts to influence and control the outcomes of their primaries. Ron Paul Finishes Third in Texas Straw Poll behind Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter

Ron Paul finished a disappointing [editorial slurr] third in the Texas Straw Poll after Duncan Hunter and recently announced Republican candidate Fred Thompson received more votes that the congressman.

Hunter, a congressman from California, managed to get 534 votes while Thompson received 266 votes, 49 more than Ron Paul.

Many of the Paul supporters who traveled to Fort Worth for the Texas straw poll left frustrated after the results were announced on Saturday. Ron Paul clearly had the advantage in supporters but the straw poll was set up in a manner that restricted voting to individuals who have been delegates or alternates at recent Republican conventions.

A very close third is not "disappointing", given the tactics used. So where was Willard Milton Romney or Giuliani? That is disappointing, embarrassing no? Of course they would not do well in Texas. The above restrictions, along with the utter deceit and corruption below, show further how Fred only beat Paul by 49 votes, while the other front runners did not even show. Again, with all this, clearly Ron Paul is a contender, as the consistency of his straw polls shows, per previous articles.

Yes Ranting, the Straw Poll was set up and as crooked as any political action I have seen in years, after 50 years of being a Republican I can honestly say I am ashamed of my association with that group. This Poll has all the earmarks of a Fascist Regime and a staged event to discredit only one man. Ron Paul. His people from San Antonio had registered online and gotten a receipt saying registration at 10 AM. The busload was there but the registrars grabed their paper work and left the tables at exactly 10 AM saying the registration ENDED at 10. They refused to allow that busload of folks into the voting area. YET... just a few moments later another group showed up that were not Paul supporters and were ushered in by the back door. Yes that was documented and photographed.

D.C. Watch-dog that sparked ethics Investigation asks why just Craig?

Again, good question here from an honest organization that might just have triggered the Craig investigation. But note this: Why were the republicans really after Craig, but not others of worse ethics violations, such as another republican who confessed to soliciting a prostitute (a more blatant illegal act)? They wanted to remove Craig for another reason or else they would be consistent. (REAL ID opposition which the Senate might vote to annul?) Which is more obvious a crime and ethics violation, foot-tapping in a public restroom or soliciting a prostitute? We report, you decide.

Also consider this recent Post article, that another blog summarized this way. "Log Cabin republicans" run deep within the corrupt national party, and the Bush administration appointed many open homosexuals. (What would Rudy do who has a video of him cross-dressing like a transvestite on YouTube? And he could be President?!). Please do recall the ethics and moral violations make government officials vulnerable to blackmail--so this therefore involves government corruption!

CREW Files Senate Ethics Complaint Against Senator Craig, Asks Why Senators Stevens and Vitter are not Held to the Same Standard

On August 28th, CREW filed a complaint with the Senate ethics committee against Senator Larry Craig (R-ID) asking for an investigation into whether the senator, by attempting to engage an undercover officer in sexual activity in a Minneapolis airport restroom, violated senate rules prohibiting ?improper conduct which reflects upon the Senate.? Shortly thereafter, the Senate Republican leadership echoed CREW?s call.

On September 1, 2007, Republican leaders forced Craig to resign as a result of the scandal, but remained silent in the face of Sen. David Vitter?s (R-LA) similar misconduct. In July, Sen. Vitter admitted to the crime of soliciting a prostitute, but has received support rather than condemnation from his Republican colleagues. Although CREW also filed an ethics complaint against Sen. Vitter, but the Senate Select Committee on Ethics has not acted on it.

CREW also wonders why Senate Republicans who were so quick to disassociate themselves from Craig have remained supportive of Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK), who last month had his house raided by the FBI in the course of a bribery investigation. Because of the ongoing criminal investigation, CREW called for Sen. Stevens to step down from his position on the Appropriations Committee, where he controls the Department of Justice?s budget. The Republican conference demurred.

For consistency?s sake, Senators Stevens and Vitter should both be subject to ethics committee investigations and forced to give up their committee assignments pending the outcome of those investigations.
