Moralityphobia--Get Over It

This anti-social and political disease is a virtual pandemic that infects all discourse within the arenas of government and public debate. Governors, state legislators, teachers, and media (including talk show radio hosts that claim to be "conservative") either promote or are complying in a slavish manner to new Humanist commandments that frame the New Public Mores of "democratic society" (by definition a humanist society without regard to God), which persecutes, scolds and attempts to censor those who do not bow to their rules of Progressive Political Correctness. It is as if there were these new higher laws, graven on modern virtual tablets, written by the finger of Democratic Man:

I. "Thou shalt have no other gods but Tolerance".
II. "Thou shalt not obey old laws, but thou shalt obey the written new rules of Political Correctness (which at present hold legislator's captive by fear and intimidation)
III. "Thou shalt not judge by old standards (only because they are old), such as Virtue, especially from historically respected books, like the Bible."
IV. "Thou shalt not take the name of Tolerance in vain (for Tolerance is intolerant of that, and demands to be worshiped, by some more than others), and make no mention of sins in the old fashion, whether public or private, or such as blasphemes Tolerance".
V. "Thou shalt make no mention of the Bible or its moral teachings, or Jesus (except for Progressive legislation for Tolerance)".

When discussion about homosexuality occurs (since the revolutionary firebrands require it) those who oppose the abhorrent, unnatural, and perverse behavior (and those who practice, promote or legalize it), and are on the side of moral society and what used to be called "public virtue," are branded, slandered, and villified as if they have done evil. A new public "shaming" is put upon them instead, and government bows in fear and even repeals its own laws. (Note the other party's blind hypocrisy about "not judging others"). Thus public debate about Morality is either censured or censored....at least the Old Morality is, but only to be replaced by the New.

Well, this dated article addresses this subject and rings true, and the rope of its bell needs to be pulled again. To the general public: "Hear ye, hear ye...

House Passes Bill to Audit the Fed

There is a very silver lining in the rather dark cloud of financial reform legislation the U.S. House just passed. This would be a historical first and could bring real change. This is a first step toward Congress finally exercising its Constitutional authority over the PRIVATE Federal Reserve Bank System, which has never before been held accountable for anything. Now if only the Senate does the same.

This is Ron Paul's legislation to Audit the Fed, remember. Yes, the one the neo-republicans tried to excommunicate during the presidential primaries for RINOs like Romney, Huckabee, and McCain instead. Capito signed onto this legislation as a sponsor on April 1st, the same day Thomas Woods was interviewed on WCHS 58Live Talk Radio, which we blogged with a recorded podcast here.

There is enough bipartisan support in the Congress very likely to overcome an Obama Veto (since thus far he has shilled for the Banksters, with the help of former New York Federal Reserve Bank Chairman, Timothy Geithner.)

My source says: The Fed audit provision which passed the Financial Services Committee a few weeks ago is part of the bill. This is a real milestone, as it means that the full House of Representatives has passed a bill that mandates a complete audit of the Fed. The effort to audit the Fed - supported by 79% of the American people - is gaining traction. My source says that it will take a couple of days for the GAO to assemble all of the amendments into a single text. Blame the Fed and Government, not Free Markets: Author of 'Meltdown' Interviewed on 58 Live

Tom Woods does not mince words and puts the blame squarely on the Fed (Bernanke, Greenspan, et al) and the U.S. government (Congress) for the financial meltdown and the economic and banking crisis.

What is ironic is that Congressman Ron Paul's warnings and economic platform, ignored by the heavy-handed republican establishment during the primaries (and which no other republican candidate stood for), is now becoming popular and receiving the attention it deserves. Against Israel's War on Gaza: The Censored Christian View

This short video from Rev. Ted Pike of National Prayer Network (who also lobbies against Hate Crime laws) presents an alternative and more historically correct Christian view of Israel, the Jews, and the recent Israeli war with Gaza and Hamas, from a standpoint consistent with the teachings of the Bible. Needless to say you will not hear this view from Michael Agnello on 58Live Talk Radio in Charleston, nor from John Hagee of Christians United for Israel (CUFI; see Bill Moyer's Journal on it's powerful influence on Congress), nor from nominal Christian politicians including George W. Bush or Barack Obama (whose Chief of Staff is Rahm Israel Emanuel). Nevertheless this is the more historically held Christian view, with some slight variations. (This is not necessarily an endorsement of all of Ted Pike's theology or political views).

Unfortunately, this historically held view was been drowned out and overcome by the infiltration of the early 20th century novel teaching of Christian Zionism which was largely started by Cyrus Scofield (and his new Bible) at Dallas Theological Seminary and promoted in the political agenda of the late "religious right", whose most formidable leaders (Jerry Falwell and D. James Kennedy) have died during the last two years.

Professing Christians and churches in particular should review this presentation and reconsider their position on modern Israel, including its re-establishment and subsequent wars. Many claim that "Christians must support Israel" (confusing the historic biblical nation with the modern secular state) and say incessantly in defense of Israel that "the Jews are God's chosen people" and quote verses (out of context) that say "pray for the peace of Jerusalem" as if this alone is the scriptural basis for unqualified, absolute, and even a "divine right" of Israel to exist, and even for them to make war upon whatever pretext, frequently branding Palestinians and all Arab nations in total as "terrorists". This is the view that the neoconservative "war party" (many of whom are Jewish) and the powerful AIPAC Lobby do not want political Christians to believe, because it threatens their propaganda which has been so effective in creating a new perpetual "war on terrorism" (justified by 9/11) largely centering on the middle east which coincidentally fits so well with the agenda for a "Greater Israel".

By the way, this historic Christian view is virtually consistent with Orthodox Jews who also oppose Zionism and the State of Israel on similar religious grounds, whose public protests against Israel's war and blockade of Gaza never seem to make the mainstream news no matter their numbers! (The same also met with President Ahmadinejad of Iran, whom neocon propagandists describe as "Hitler").

After seeing this video it will become apparent that the superficially based belief of Christian Zionism and unqualified support for the modern state of Israel is in contradiction with both Scripture and reason if one is intellectually honest and has a high view of the Bible's authority.

Palin Brings Feminism to Republicans and Christians

In case it was unclear, Sarah Palin is a "card-carrying feminist", excluding only abortion. Yet religious and Christian conservatives still praise her and claim the republican party is their party, although there is some growing dissent.

No longer can Rush Limbaugh talk of the radical "Femi-nazis" then without including republican VP candidate Palin in that monologue, can he? But feminism includes more than just abortion rights. And consider the threat of what feminism really is to society's integrity and constitution, even from a strictly secular viewpoint. For a unique critique on feminism see this article which says in part:

...most contemporary feminism...is what Sommers has called "gender feminism," which is essentially based on a form of Marxist theory that substitutes "gender" for Marx's category of "class," or simply adds the two together, usually with "race" thrown in. This sort of "race, class, and gender" theory is typically a dangerous form of political moralism, with the same totalitarian characteristics as other versions of Marxism have proven to display.

There is a slow awakening of just what Palin really represents among conservative Christians. An example of such Christian dissent against Palin is represented in an article here which underlines the hypocrisy of pretending she is "conservative" or even Christian in representation, even while the political left consider her a threat:

For years, conservative Christians have been outspoken in their opposition to the political vision of the radical feminist movement. Now they are supporting a woman for the second highest office in the land who is a self-identified feminist who wants to make feminist objectives a part of her political agenda.

What you hear alot of on talk radio (Rush, Hannity, et al) is that Feminism is being redefined, for Palin, as if only for those women who are pro-abortion rights. That is purposely misleading and intellectually dishonest, what can be called pure propaganda.

PALIN IS A POTENTIAL LIABILITY FOR MCCAIN AMONG CONSERVATIVES

If the dissent grows among Christian conservatives this could potentially then cost McCain losing at least a portion of his conservative base (which never liked him) more than helping him as perhaps he thought! Palin could be McCain's downfall.

If McCain is losing "moderate republicans" and now part of the conservative base (who might not vote, or vote for Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party), it will be impossible for him to win. Yet the better national polls show it very close, apparently meaning that conservatives have not yet left him. But could this account for some of the closing gap between McCain and Obama in West Virginia?

U.S. Ship Shoots at Iranian, Oil Price Leaps--War Policy Drives Oil Prices, not OPEC

This financial clip below marks the real reason behind gas at $3.69/gallon vs. $1.25/gallon when Bush entered office. It's not supply and demand, nor OPEC squeezing us. It is neocon (both U.S. and Israel) war-mongering in the Middle East which makes the future's traders bid up the price of oil based upon war fears alone!

That war fears drive oil prices is well documented, even by the most bias sources, like this one:

...the actual oil price patterns observed in the cases previously examined (the First Gulf War, 1990-91; the Taiwan Strait Crisis, 1996; Operation Desert Strike, 1996; Operation Desert Fox, 1998; the Libyan Operations, of 1986; the Gulf Shipping Crisis, 1987; and the Iraq-Kuwait border confrontation of October 1994) followed a fairly similar pattern. Prior to a crisis, oil futures market curves generally slope upward.

Also this from Bloomberg, as to why the financial "betters" (profit-mongers who contribute to future's inflation) on oil have been wagering it will rise to $125 per barrel, at your expense:

Tensions between Turkey and Iraq over Kurdish militants as well as over Iran's nuclear program have also helped drive oil prices higher.

Instead we hear nonsense and propaganda on talk radio (Listen here for a clip on oil and gas prices with Mike Agnello on 58 Live) that "OPEC is mostly our enemies" in the Middle East (Saudis are best friends with Bush s and D.C., and U.A.E. is as well), that our limiting supply. Not true, not true at all.

Secondly, OPEC's share of world crude production is now less than 30 percent. Iraq, an OPEC country, is producing below historical levels, not because of OPEC, but because the U.S. invaded it, without just cause.

Third, OPEC's production has been "holding" steady, not decreasing (per a bias Wall Street report), while our previous article below shows that global demand has grown only 2 percent, while U.S. demand has decreased. Therefore, the oil prices cannot be driven due to a decline or "pinch" in supply by OPEC. Recall again, that Iraq's production has declined due to U.S. invasion.

The evidence is clear, it is neocon war-mongering, principally, that began with the Bush administration--an administration uniquely stacked with oil executives--that is driving oil prices. Now Americans are paying for the economic cost of war at the pumps which is setting inflationary records on other consumer goods as well. War-mongering, against Iran, like both Democrats and Neo-republicans have been doing, since a year ago, has contributed to this increase of another dollar per gallon! Until the war policy changes, whether a Democrat or Neo-republican is in the White House, it is now forecast to double in the next four years, and prices will be to $4 per gallon on gas this summer!

SOLUTION: CHANGE THE WAR POLICY AND OIL PRICES WILL DROP.

A ship contracted by the U.S Military Sealift Command fired at least one shot toward an Iranian boat, Reuters reported, citing an unnamed U.S. defense official. More details were not yet available. Crude-oil for June delivery gained $3.04, or 2.6%, to $119.10 on the New York Mercantile Exchange after the news. Crude was trading higher before the report but was up less than $3.

No Convictions, Lack of Evidence on Alleged "Terrorism Plots"

Just a few news stories that are sure to be under-reported and that you will never hear of on local talk radio when talking about "Islamo fascists" and "terrorists that want to kill us", i.e. the propaganda that justifies wars and tyrannical "security" measures to increase surveillance, domestic spying, and things like REAL ID and the PATRIOT ACT. But you did hear about them when stories were splashed liberally that "terrorist plots" were thwarted in the U.S. and Canada from the MSM propaganda machine, that parrots neocon "terrorism experts" or Homeland Security sources.

These stories (collected by CLG's newsfeed) go to show that, like the words "there is no doubt that Saddam has WMD", that allegation and accusation by the government, and the MSM, does not equal truth. The claims of "terrorist threats" are Overblown, irrationally based, paranoid-producing, and propaganda lies (planted FBI agents have been provocateurs in many cases), that cannot hold up under the basic laws of evidence and jurisprudence. The only convictions ever obtained have been through torture and "redacted" testimony. (See our article on the "convicted mastermind of 9/11" here).

Soon you will hear about "terrorist threats" for the summer, or sensational drills or the "inevitable attack on D.C." scenarios (that increase advertising ratings too), especially before elections, so this should be recalled, and their credibility immediately questioned:

Mistrial declared again in U.S. terrorism case

16 Apr 2008 A U.S. judge declared a mistrial on Wednesday for six men accused of joining forces with al Qaeda [al-CIAduh] to blow up the Sears Tower in Chicago as part of an Islamic jihad against the United States. It was the second mistrial declared by U.S. District Court Judge Joan Lenard in the case involving the men from Miami's impoverished Liberty City neighborhood.

No signs of Qaeda at U.S.-Mexican border: official

11 Apr 2008 Authorities have seen no signs [ed. evidence] of al Qaeda [al-CIAduh] trying to insert operatives into the United States from Mexico, but the militant group has considered doing so, a U.S. intelligence official said on Friday.

West Virginia GOP Convention Update--Most Conservative Candidate Ousted

The following recent articles, and a democratic blog commentary, update the West Virginia Republican Convention still in progress, since it yielded no initial winner, which requires over 50 percent of the vote. Note that MSNBC below offered better coverage of Ron Paul, the first candidate speaker, than local radio or TV.

GOP ESTABLISHMENT AND MEDIA COLLUDE TO OUST RON PAUL

If you wanted to hear any excerpts of the speech from the the most principled conservative republican that raised the most money in West Virginia--Ron Paul--you could not hear him via local radio since West Virginia Radio Corporation, both in their reporting and state wide radio with Hoppy Kercheval, blacked him out. But it was covered live apparently via internet (see link below). (Do recall that John Raese, Chief Executive of WV Radio, ran against Robert C. Byrd in the Senate, and is tied to the state party establishment). Media bias and deliberate interventionism by deciding who is interviewed and recorded on their website is blatant and obvious, especially since interviewing Ron Paul always increases ratings (the basis for ad revenues). Fearing to alienate their Christian listeners they included Huckabee probably as a "Christian" alternative to Romney's Mormonism (while neither candidate pass the conservative tests of the republican party planks based upon their respective records). This was the extent of their "balanced" coverage. On WCHS Charleston radio's 58Live yesterday (a local station in the network covering the state's capital) even the "moderate" Rick Johnson only mentioned "three" candidates and deliberately did not mention Ron Paul as a candidate for which delegates could vote for despite that he was the first confirmed speaker. This is typical of that program's views (disclaimed in its daily introduction as a part of West Virginia Radio Corp.) usually expressed only by the neocon sycophant Mike Agnello. Though West Virginians have a right to the public airwaves, and it is in the public interest to have a well informed electorate, West Virginia Radio Corporation decided to apparently collude with the GOP establishment to push particular candidates and eliminate Paul. Note also that McCain is even excluded in their coverage (see link above).

It is entirely possible that the stratagy of the establishment was to consolidate behind Romney in the first round in order to oust Ron Paul, which they did, and then permit McCain into the picture in the final voting without Paul. This is how the party collusion, in tandem with West Virginia Radio, appears to be working. The evidence of this is in the Charleston Gazette which stated that Thompson and Giuliani supporters were moving toward McCain, which was not evidenced in this intial vote. The strategy to oust Paul as a priority is evident, and worked. The outcome is pending.

PLAYGROUND "DEMOCRACY" AT WORK--PUBLIC ELECTORATE DISENFRANCHISED

Complaints by the republican electorate yesterday were numerous on talk radio expressing the largely held belief that they were disenfranchised by the establishment. The state GOP claimed they ran numerous ads in newspapers and thousands of emails, but listeners said they heard nothing, and the newspapers ran stories that showed 1,100 delegate nominees were still needed with only 5 days left before the deadline. (The last minute rush to fill delegates refutes the argument of heavy or timely advertising. The fact is the state GOP wanted to save money, and control the outcome, for a very profitable convention for them). Interestingly, Chairman McKinney's favored candidate (now that Don Surber and Vic Sprouse have lost their favorites of Fred Thompson and Giuliani, respectively), Mitt Romney, appears to be positioned to win as the establishment consolidates its power in this "winner take all" convention, which usurps 18 delegates from the republican electorate, largely uninformed, and unpersuaded. (Horse trading and vote pushing is hardly persuasion, but playground "democracy" of "majority rule").

There is no doubt that the republican establishment, rather than the electorate, with the help of West Virginia Radio Corporation (which virtually controls state-wide radio coverage in audience listenership), deliberately intervened and colluded to control the outcome to THEIR desire, sacrificing a truly informed general public in the process.

One of the chief members of several neoconservative think tanks, including the Project for New American Century, and among the chief of the Jewish Zionists that brought you the deliberate lies and disinformation to justify the Iraq War (while pushing for war against Lebanon, Syria, and Iran as well), is the former CIA chief James Woolsey. Neoconservative associates of his (e.g. Bridget Gabriel, Frank Gaffney) are frequently interviewed on local WCHS 58Live talk radio by Michael Agnello as "terrorism experts" selling the same paranoid propaganda to justify wars and tyrannical domestic security measures and anti-Constitutional legislation. Below is the report of the same "intelligence estimate" that Cheney worked so hard "to fix" reported earlier (see our previous article), since it came from CIA and other agencies instead of neocon contractors (e.g. Booz Hamilton) or the rogue Office of Special Plans. Yet Cheney managed to get this "redacted" as well, to state that Iran was pursuing weapons until 2003 (no evidence is cited), and halted due to international (UN) pressure. Those statements were made to flatter UN authorities and reward them for following the neocon propaganda. But despite Cheney's attempts to change this report there is now no credible evidence sustaining the cries for military action by the neoconservative and Israeli sycophants in the media and talk radio or by Israeli and Zionist fronts such as John Hagee's Christians United For Israel (CUFI). Military action should be "off the table" entirely, including for the 2008 candidates who (excepting Ron Paul) all followed a war policy based upon the neoconservative lies.

MSNBC’s David Shuster filled in for Keith Olbermann today on Countdown, and spoke with Air America Radio’s Rachel Maddow about the revelations today from the NIE report that Iran halted its nuclear program back in 2003. As Shuster and Maddow point out, the Bush administration has no shame, which is why they had no problem trotting out National Security Adviser, Stephen Hadley, to float the ridiculous notion that the report wasn’t completed until Tuesday of last week and that President Bush only learned that Iran halted its nuclear program four years ago — the following day.

Gun Owners of America Warns NRA, and Republican Congress, Compromising on 2nd Amendment

This is not new and why Congressman Ron Paul calls GOA "the only no-compromise gun lobby in Washington". NRA, despite their poster celebrity Charleton Heston's "cold dead hands" rhetoric, has a pattern of ceding gun rights in increasing compromises. Here GOA calls them on it publicly. Shelly Moore Capito and other republicans should pay close attention.

It should never be a crime, as it is now, to be armed (i.e. concealed carry, registration permits, et al). It should only be a crime to make illegal use of arms, or the Second Amendment means nothing. The "security state" is replacing the "freedom state" that America once was, all under the tyrant's politically-correct plea of "necessity". FEAR is the weapon they use to create "must pass" legislation, as usual. Local talk show hosts have bowed to the same pressure. Eventually, West Virginia will become like Giuliani's New York City fascist police state instead of a place where "Mountaineers are always free". Think about it, and read this.

It may be a cliche, but it is true: This letter is written not in
anger, but in sorrow and concern. It is written to our friends about
NRA staff who, tragically, have taken a course which, we believe,
would be disastrous for the Second Amendment and the pro-gun
movement.

Two of us are Life Members of the NRA -- one of whom was an NRA board
member for over ten years. And our legislative counsel was a paid
consultant for the NRA.

So we certainly have no animus against the NRA staff, much less our
wonderful friends who are NRA members.

In fact, over the last thirty years, GOA and its staff have worked
with NRA to facilitate most of our pro-gun victories -- from
McClure-Volkmer to the death of post-Columbine gun control to a gun
liability bill free of anti-gun "killer amendments."

But those who staff the NRA, without consulting the membership, have
now made a series of strange and dangerous alliances with the likes
of Chuck Schumer, Carolyn McCarthy, and Pat Leahy. And we believe
that, if allowed to continue, this will produce anti-gun policies
which the NRA staff will bitterly regret.

Christ said, in the Sermon on the Mount, that "by their fruits, ye
shall know them." And, frankly, these fruits are not likely to
produce much pro-gun legislation.

Substantively, the Leahy/McCarthy/Schumer bill, which NRA's staff has
vigorously supported without consulting with its membership, would
rubber-stamp the illegal and non-statutory BATFE regulations which
have already been used to strip gun rights from 110,000 veterans. It
would also allow an anti-gun administration to turn over Americans'
most private medical records to the federal instant check system
without a court order.

But perhaps even worse, the bill was hatched in secret, without
hearings or testimony, and passed out of the House without even a
roll call. And now, the sponsors are trying to do the same thing in
the Senate -- in an effort to ram the bill through without votes or
floor debate, led by anti-gun Senator Chuck Schumer. If it is good
legislation, as its proponents claim, why such fears of a roll call
vote or debate in committee?

Indeed, in the face of horrific dissent from the NRA's own
membership, its staff has tragically ignored arguments and dug in its
heels -- in an almost "because-we-say-so" attitude.

Understand this:

* Passage of McCarthy/Leahy/Schumer will not quell the calls for gun
control. To the contrary, it will embolden our enemies to push for
the abolition of even more of our Second Amendment rights. Already,
the Brady Campaign has indicated its intent to follow up this
"victory" with a push for an effective ban on gun shows.

* Passage of McCarthy/Leahy/Schumer will not be viewed as an "NRA
victory." To the contrary, once the liberal media has used the NRA
staff for its purposes, it will throw them away like a used Kleenex.
Already, an over-confident press is crowing that this is the "first
major gun control measure in over a decade."

* Taking the BATFE's horrifically expansive unlawful regulations
dealing with veterans' loss of gun rights and making them
unchangeable congressionally-endorsed statutory law is NOT
"maintaining the status quo."

* We are told that the McCarthy/Leahy/Schumer bill should be passed
because it contains special provisions to allow persons prohibited
from owning guns to get their rights restored. But there is already
such a provision in the law; it is 18 U.S.C. 925(c). And the reason
why no one has been able to get their rights restored under CURRENT
LAW is that funds for the system have been blocked by Chuck Schumer.
It is no favor to gun owners for Chuck Schumer -- the man who has
blocked funding for McClure-Volkmer's "relief from disability"
provisions for 15 years -- to now offer to give us back a tepid
version of the provisions of current law which he has tried so hard
to destroy.

Finally, there is the cost, which ranges from $1 billion in the
cheapest draft to $5 billion -- to one bill which places no limits
whatsoever on spending. Thus, we would be drastically increasing
funding for gun control -- at a time when BATFE, which has done so
much damage to the Second Amendment, should be punished, rather than
rewarded.

We would now respectfully ask the NRA staff to step back from a
battle with its membership -- and to join with us in opposing
McCarthy/Leahy/Schumer gun control, rather than supporting it.

And, to our friends and NRA members, we would ask that you take this
letter and pass it on to your friends and colleagues.

President Ahmadinejad meets Jewish rabbis in New York

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Monday afternoon met with a group of Jewish rabbis who gave him a silver grail as a sign of friendship.

The president is currently in New York to address the United Nations General Assembly.

The rabbis carried a placard which read, "I am Jewish not a Zionist."
A senior rabbi of the group said that they considered the visit to New York of President Ahmadinejad as an exceptional opportunity and would never forget it.

He referred to the Iranian president as a person who made a distinction between Jews and Zionists.

"You understand us and make a distinction between the violent behavior of Zionists and the religious beliefs of Jews," said the senior rabbi who called President Ahmadinejad "a pious man who is seeking to restore peace in the world and has humanitarian plans." Appreciating the rabbis for their gift, President Ahmadinejad said he was happy to visit them.

"All people in the world have now understood that Judaism is different from Zionism," said the president.

He added, "Zionists are a political group looking for taking advantage of the opportunities while Jews are the followers of the Moses who promoted peace and friendship."
President Ahmadinejad stressed that there was no disagreement between the followers of Judaism, Christianity and Islam as they all pray the same God and are brothers.

The president said the future belongs to the monotheist faiths and that liars would be eliminated.

He stressed that all followers of divine faiths were responsible to promote monotheism and defend peace, justice and brotherhood.

Two sources on this very important news that will not make network media. Cheney mulled Israeli strike on Iran: Newsweek

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney had at one point considered asking Israel to launch limited missile strikes at an Iranian nuclear site to provoke a retaliation, Newsweek magazine reported on Sunday.

The news comes amid reports that Israel launched an air strike against Syria this month over a suspected nuclear site.

Citing two unidentified sources, Newsweek said former Cheney Middle East adviser David Wurmser told a small group several months ago that Cheney was considering asking Israel to strike the Iranian nuclear site at Natanz.

Podhoretz Granted Secret Access To Lobby Bush On ‘The Case For Bombing Iran’

Norman Podhoretz, the “patriarch of neoconservatism,” recently published a book entitled “World War IV: The Long Struggle Against Islamofascism,” staunchly supporting the Iraq war and pushing for war with Iran. In June, Podhoretz published a controversial piece in Commentary magazine titled “The Case for Bombing Iran.”

The Politico reports today that President Bush has been listening to Podhoretz’s radical agenda, recently enlisting Podhoretz to discuss his views on Iran. In a meeting that “was not on the president’s public schedule,” Bush and Karl Rove “sat listening to Norman Podhoretz for roughly 45 minutes at the White House”:

Rove was silent throughout, though he took notes. The president listened diligently, Podhoretz said as he recounted the conversation months later, but he “didn’t tip his hand.”

“I did say to [the president], that people ask: Why are you spending all this time negotiating sanctions? Time is passing. I said, my friend [Robert] Kagan wrote a column which he said you were giving ‘futility its chance.’ And both he and Karl Rove burst out laughing.

“It struck me,” Podhoretz added, “that if they really believed that there was a chance for these negotiations and sanctions to work, they would not have laughed. They would have got their backs up and said, ‘No, no, it’s not futile, there’s a very good chance.’”

President Bush has loyally supported Podhoretz’s agenda in the past. In 2004, he bestowed the Presidential Medal of Freedom — the nation’s highest civilian honor — on Podhoretz, calling him a “fierce intellectual man” with “fine writing and a “great love for our country.”

Today, Podhoretz’s calls for bombing Iran are being echoed in the administration. According to Newsweek, Vice President Cheney considered a plan to allow Israel to conduct missile strikes against Iran “in an effort to draw a military response from Iran, which could in turn spark a U.S. offensive against targets in the Islamic Republic.”

Podhoretz has argued that “if we were to bomb the Iranians as I hope and pray we will…we’ll unleash a wave of anti-Americanism all over the world that will make the anti-Americanism we’ve experienced so far look like a lovefest.” By enlisting Podhoretz’s advice, President Bush is demonstrating that there isn’t any idea too radical for him to consider.

Attack on Iran: the PR campaign picks up speed

The latest signal came from George Bush, warning of a “nuclear holocaust” if Iran gets The Bomb (despite an IAEA report that Iran isn’t as much of a threat as Bush claims). There can’t be any more provocative words than “nuclear holocaust” to justify the purported prevention of one. Nor can there be any doubt that, with such freighted language, combined with the accusation that Iran is arming insurgents and terrorists in Iraq and that a substantial portion of its army is a terrorist organization, the propaganda campaign to soften us up for The Announcement is accelerating or that an attack, whether it actually happens or not, is solidly in the works.

The New York Times headline put it mildly, not even mentioning Iran. The Guardian was somewhat less reserved. Even less so is Gareth Porter, who homes in on Dick Cheney and Joseph Lieberman as being behind the push for war with Iran......

Barnett Rubin relays a message from a well-connected friend in Washington on the Cheney Administration’s plans to roll out a military confrontation with Iran in September. He writes at the Global Affairs blog:

” My friend had spoken to someone in one of the leading neo-conservative institutions. He summarized what he was told this way:

They [the source’s institution] have “instructions” (yes, that was the word used) from the Office of the Vice-President to roll out a campaign for war with Iran in the week after Labor Day; it will be coordinated with the American Enterprise Institute, the Wall Street Journal, the Weekly Standard, Commentary, Fox, and the usual suspects. It will be heavy sustained assault on the airwaves, designed to knock public sentiment into a position from which a war can be maintained. Evidently they don’t think they’ll ever get majority support for this–they want something like 35-40 percent support, which in their book is “plenty.”
